OTTAWA, ON—A strong showing of ACORN members, packed the room for South Ottawa ACORN’s third and final Organizing Committee Meeting ahead of the Renter’s Roundtable and South Ottawa ACORN Chapter Relaunch approaching on Saturday, July 26th. The turnout shows just how fired up our chapter is to fight for safe, healthy, and affordable housing, better community services and more of what we deserve in Ottawa South!
Members shared their experiences and issues they’re facing:
- Poor building maintenance
- Unsafe living conditions
- Lack of timely repairs
- High rent and low accountability from landlords
Big shoutout to ACORN members Cassandra, Dakota and Steve for leading the meeting!

Safe Sharps Outreach at Sandalwood Park
Following our recent win for a safe sharps disposal unit at Sandalwood Park, members unanimously voted to launch a community outreach action to raise awareness and ensure the unit is being used and maintained properly.
The action is happening Tuesday July 15th at Sandalwood Park in Herongate!
This outreach is about building safety through education, and showing the city that ACORN members don’t stop after a win. We follow through!
Solidifying Our Chapter’s Campaign
To build on our momentum, members unanimously voted to solidify the South Ottawa ACORN campaign. We’ll be focusing on:
- Safe, affordable housing
- Tenant rights and rent control
- Accountability for landlords and city officials
- Better public services in low-income and working-class neighborhoods
